Therefore, Ladies and Gentlemen, distinguished guests, and esteemed members, we welcome you, on this Christmas Eve, to join us in our club, set amidst the very heart of Dickens’ London, a city of contrasts, of gaslight and grandeur, of progress and perseverance. A most illustrious assembly of minds, hearts, and hands devoted to the advancement of knowledge, beauty, and civilization.
