A Toast to the Season

Join members of the Athenæum Club in an evening of traditional and adlibbed toasts to the Christmas season. Ladies, gentlemen, naval officers, household staff, and honored guests, all are welcome to provide toasts at our celebration.

On Christmas Eve, the Athenæum Club glows with amber light and the steady warmth of a coal fire. Servants move quietly along the paneled walls, filling glasses at a side table where bottles of fine champagne rest in silver buckets. Nearby, gentlemen glide through the room with polished ease, offering the first filled flutes to the ladies as soft conversation and laughter mingle in the air.

The scene gleams with elegance, gentlemen in fine suits and the ladies in rich gowns, evergreen garlands draped above the hearth, and light reflected in glass and silver. One by one, the ladies take their seats with gentlemen close at hand, their voices falling to a gentle hush as the hour of the toasting draws near. The President of the Club poised and dignified commands a stillness richer than silence. In that breathless pause, tradition stirs, the solemn warmth of shared memory binding every heart. Christmas, like the club itself, endures through care, civility, and the fellowship of kindred souls gathered close against the winter dark in Charles Dickens’ London.
