Our Mission

What is Interpreting History?

Interpreting History is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our objective is to promote interpretive history as a means of building community by understanding our shared history, illuminating previous actions that may address current problems, and finding inspiration to guide our future. The term ‘Interpretive History’ is understood to mean applying performing arts skills to effectively communicate topics covering material culture, customs, beliefs, innovations, and events that shaped peoples and communities during the periods we represent.

Our Goals

Interpreting History strives to supply an educational, entertaining, and immersive experience that promotes an appreciation for history. We:

  1. Support and publish scholarly research about the peoples, material culture, communities, and events of the periods portrayed.
  2. Supply training that supports entertaining representations including acting, improvisation, singing, etiquette, and dancing techniques.
  3. Design and implement programs that support an immersive and fully representative experience.
  4. Support other non-profit and civic organizations by supplying education, training, and technical aid.
  5. Work cooperatively with other organizations to build audiences and participants for interpretive history.
  6. Serve as a community resource center for information, materials, and programming.
  7. Work to elevate the quality of life within the communities we serve.
